From the artist:

"Illustration is storytelling, first and foremost. It is in this way that I'm able to combine a lifetime of study and practice as a visual artist with 15 years experience as a professional actor. As an illustrator, it's my job to be an artist, a filmmaker, a director, and an actor simultaneously. I create the moments and compose the shot, freeze, expand, and compress time, and spin out a sequence of images that draws the viewer in, compelling them to some degree to enter that story, and ask 'How does this relate to me?' 'Is this a moment or a situation that I'm familiar with - that helps me understand my circumstance better?' 'Is this a moment that I'm unfamiliar with - and one that I want?' Knowing draftsmanship, color, composition, and cinematic narrative are the cornerstones of any good illustrator's career - especially the storyboard and the comic book artist. But what sets my work apart, I think, is my continuing compulsion to craft the acting moment. Fortunately or unfortunately for me, I've been an actor and a dramatist too long, and simply drawing a muscled hero in a striking pose, or a generic alluring woman, or a generic, blank-faced bookmarker of a character holding a product just doesn't cut it. What interests me is diving into the acting moments - showing a character caught in the midst of an experience that is clear, immediate, and compelling. For me, aside from being my favorite daily challenge of a challenging and rewarding career, this increases the level of connection that is possible between the illustrated image and the viewer or the client. It adds a level of sophistication and nuance to any project, and, in my experience, far from closing off options or 'getting too specific,' taking the frame, the board, or the painting to this level continually explodes open the potential of what is possible."

Clark received his Master's in Acting from the A.R.T. Institute at Harvard University. He studied illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design and Syracuse University, and continues to study and practice at the School of Visual Arts and The Art Student's League in New York City. He is represented by Storyboards, Inc in Los Angeles. Clark has an ongoing working relationship with photographer and filmmaker Albert Watson. Photo District News named Watson "one of the 20 most influential photographers of all time, along with Richard Avedon and Irving Penn, among others." Clark has done numerous storyboards for Watson and his associates at CYCLOPS Productions, including an extensive European campaign for Breil Watches starring Charlize Theron. Clark is excited to soon begin collaborating with Watson on his upcoming first feature film.
